ABOUT MATT
Matt Tivnon’s ability to keep the user experience front and center when solving the puzzle of a new project has resulted in products widely available on the global market that have generated awards and loyal followers.
For 20 years, Matt has dedicated his professional career to the design of innovative, forward-thinking products that inspire a level of value for the customer that goes beyond the functional use of the product. The joy in the job of product design is found in the marriage of delivering a project that honors the scope of work and comes in at cost, while also teasing out the artistic elements of fluid design that inspires in the end user an affection for the product and for the brand. True brand loyalty occurs when the mere act of opening the box, holding a product, and enjoying the look and feel of it is, in itself, a memorable experience for the buyer.
To achieve this kind of excellence in product design doesn’t happen in a vacuum or in the confines of one designer’s brain. For Matt, the most rewarding and successful designs of his career have been a result of team collaboration. Dating back to his days at ArtCenter College of Design, he sought out opportunities to learn from others. Whether it’s head down and huddled as the team works in concert to develop a product or talking design theory over beers after work, Matt enjoys nothing more than establishing that resonant frequency with his design team where they work with mutual respect and admiration for the design process. With this humanistic approach to the work, Matt has gained a wide network of colleagues and life-long friends.
In addition to his work in the studio, Matt has traveled across the globe, visiting factories, assessing design components and raw materials to better understand cost and potential applications. This ability to communicate with a diverse set of stakeholders isn’t limited to the supply chain. His has also become adept at communicating the value of good design. He is regularly invited to present across the US and internationally to market newly developed products to clients across a range of industries.
When not in the design studio, Matt and his wife, Kathleen, enjoy cooking and barbecuing, vacationing with friends and family, and savoring downtime with their two beloved dogs, Muggs and Arlo.
